Well cared for, excellent views, and lots of historic information about this location
Come explore the war of 1812 history at the Sackets Harbor Battlefield. Displays, monuments and period buildings to explore. Great water views. Grab a bite to eat downtown, everything is within walking distance.
The War of 1812 had a great deal of the conflict conducted in New York, and this is one of the few places that had two battles on the same site. Sackets Harbor was an important harbor for ship building and repair, making it vital to both sides of the war. I have visited this site several times and I would often take our family visitors there as well. The site itself is somewhat well preserved. Much of the site where you can walk around is well maintained, but where most of the actual conflict is believed to have happened is not really accessible. The structures on the site are incredibly up-kept, but only open for a selected amount of time due to the winters in Upstate New York can be quite harsh. You will have to pay for some access to parts of the park and special events. Plan for at least 1-2 hours if you are there just to walk around the park, more if you are there to see the buildings or an event.
Great place to walk to discover local history. Beautiful views and close to great restaurants.
I have many beautiful pictures of this battlefield. I lived right up the road and this was our go to when being stationed at a Fort Drum!
